Chiquy Mejia, a Venezuelan folk dancer, professional entertainer, and Zumba instructor, founded the Chiqlets Dance Team in 2014 with a vision to bring people together through dance and create a space where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

What began as a personal dream grew into a vibrant, inclusive community. Under Chiquy's leadership, the Chiqlets brought joy, confidence, and connection to families across the Bay Area — many of whom stepped onto the stage for the first time — while uplifting and strengthening community spirit with every performance.

Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Chiquy has been sharing her passion for performance since 1988, when she began entertaining as a clown, offering face painting, balloon art, family games, and stilt walking, creating unforgettable celebrations filled with joy and laughter. Since 2003, she has also served as a Recreation Coordinator for the City of Morgan Hill, leading programs that inspire and empower individuals of all ages and abilities.

With deep gratitude, Chiquy recognizes Paula Scotney-Castle and Michelle Lieberman for continuing her vision and uplifting the Chiqlets community with their own touch, experience, and flavor.

Today, Chiquy continues to share her love of dance and music, igniting joy, building connection, and inspiring every step through her Zumba classes at the Centennial Recreation Center, Morgan Hill Library, Campbell Community Center, and at special events throughout the Bay Area. Chiquy’s slogan is "Dance Like No One is Watching!"
